Two Dead, One Critically Injured in 3 Vehicle Garden State Parkway Crash
A Garden State Parkway crash involving three vehicles has left two people dead and one other critically injured.
The accident occurred just after 12 p.m. on Sunday, near exit 152 in Bloomfield, when Ralph Lanni, 46, of Clark, lost control of his 2002 Saab. Lanni, traveling northbound, veered across the median and into the southbound lanes. His Saab struck a 2004 Nissan Sentra, which then was struck from behind by a 2005 Toyota Camry.
Ilana Jonsson, 28, of Lincoln Park, a passenger in the Nissan was killed. Her husband and driver of the Nissan, Justin Jonsson, 28, suffered severe head trauma and is listed in critical condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.
The driver of the Toyota, Stanley Bergman, 65, of Edison, and his wife Aliza Bergman, 62, a passenger, were treated at University Hospital in Newark for non life-threatening injuries.
Lanni died in the accident and police are investigating why his car veered into the oncoming lanes.
Police closed lanes of the highway for about four hours while they cleared the accident scene.
