Louisville Woman Files Fosamax Lawsuit

May 20, 2006

Suffering from what amounts to a rotten jawbone, a Louisville, KY woman has filed a Fosamax lawsuit against Merck claiming the drug is responsible for the development of Osteonecrosis in her jaw.

There's no mention of such a potential side effect in commercials advertising the claim.

In 2005, at the request of the FDA, Merck did add a warning. That's found on a 22-page document that prescribing pharmacies receive.

There's no mention on the box.

Biphosphonates make it impossible to fight bacteria in the jaw that eats away at the bone. One oral surgeon reported seeing three cases of Osteonecrosis in 30 years of practice. He has seen seven cases in the last year, and all patients were taking osteoporosis drugs. Approximately 2500 people nationwide have been diagnosed with Osteonecrosis, and many doctors thin this is just the tip of the iceberg.

If you or a family member has suffered sever side effects due to the use of biphosphonates such as Fosamax, it may be important to contact fosamax attorneys at Napoli, Bern and Ripka.
