Cerebral Palsy
Plaintiffs' Personal Injury Law Firm
Cerebral Palsy is a disorder that affects the way a person is able to control their body movements generally restricting muscle control. Cerebral Palsy can be formed during development in the womb, during infancy, during the birthing process, or shortly after. Cerebral Palsy is caused by damage to the brain that results in the inability to control muscle movements in the body. The most common type of Cerebral Palsy is Spastic Palsy, which occurs in 80% of all cases of Cerebral Palsy. This type of Palsy gives way to erratic and rigid movements because the muscles are very tight.
Children with Cerebral Palsy generally have a tough time walking, eating, and performing normal daily functions in the way other children would be able too. Cerebral Palsy is not progressive in which children with the disorder will have the symptoms for the rest of their life.
Cerebral Palsy can be caused by medical malpractice during the birthing process. If a doctor takes too long to extract a child from the birth canal, uses too much force with forceps, or any other action that causes a lack of oxygen to reach the baby, medical malpractice may have occurred.
The symptoms associated with Cerebral Palsy include rough and rigid movements, problems with grasping objects, lack of coordination and muscle tones, tight and low muscle tones, as well as spasms and seizures. Occurrences of Cerebral Palsy caused by medical malpractice should take the matter up with the court to receive compensation for medical expenses and pain and suffering.
If your child suffers from Cerebral Palsy due to an act of medical malpractice, contact Napoli Bern Ripka LLP to have an expert lawyer discuss your case with you determine the actions to take to get you started on your path to justice.
